Elongated Home Button area & Larger Display shows on leaked iPhone 5 Screen Protector

We can feel the heat is rising as the iPhone 5 release date is just around the corner, a lot of news about the next gen of the iPhone is widely spread across the Internet lately.

Recently, unwire.hk posted pictures of the screen protector that has been claimed (possibly) to be an iPhone 5 screen protector.

The recent leak we have here has strengthen up the report we have earlier where the home button area is predicted to be larger.

Along with the elongated home button, as can be seen in the picture where an iPhone 4 is placed face-down on top of the screen protector, it is also showing the size of the iPhone 5 is slightly bigger than the iPhone 4.

Regardless of the news, we are expecting the iPhone 5 launch in this October.

Case-Mate Preps for Release of iPhone 5 Cases with Revamped Design

We've published a number of articles about iPhone 5 cases suggesting that the device will be significantly wider but thinner than the iPhone 4, but most of those cases have been sourced from relatively low-profile Asian suppliers so far. As noted by BGR, larger U.S. companies such as Case-Mate are now getting into the picture with their own cases based on the same rumored design.

Case-Mate earlier today posted a number of different iPhone 5 case designs, only toquickly pull the page as it began to receive publicity. The cases seem to show the same rounded and tapered profile of other iPhone 5 cases, along with the mute switch being move from the left side of the device to the right side.

Concrete evidence for a redesigned iPhone 5 has been surprisingly scant, with case designs being essentially the only sign of such a revamp. Meanwhile, a number of parts have been surfacing for Apple's "N94" iPhone that is based on the iPhone 4 design and has been informally referred to as the iPhone 4S. Consequently, doubts have been raised about whether the redesigned form factor will actually be making an appearance, withsupply chain checks reporting no sign of the device and only the iPhone 4S entering production.

It is difficult to point to Case-Mate's posting as further proof of an imminent redesigned iPhone 5, as the cases are likely based on the same leaked design document used by Asian manufacturers, a document whose authenticity has been called into question given the lack of supporting evidence for such a device. But it is interesting to note that even relatively major U.S.-based case manufacturers are investing in designs for cases based on this form factor.

Apple Lost iPhone 5 Prototype In A Bar

In a bizarre repeat of a high-profile incident last year, an Apple employee once again appears to have lost an unreleased iPhone in a bar, CNET has learned.

The errant iPhone, which went missing in San Francisco's Mission district in late July, sparked a scramble by Apple security to recover the device over the next few days, according to a source familiar with the investigation.

unreleased iPhone apparently went missing.

Last year, an iPhone 4 prototype was bought by a gadget blog that paid $5,000 in cash. This year's lost phone seems to have taken a more mundane path: it was taken from a Mexican restaurant and bar and may have been sold on Craigslist for $200. Still unclear are details about the device, what version of the iOS operating system it was running, and what it looks like.

While Apple has not publicly announced any plans for future phones, unconfirmed reports in the last few weeks suggest the launch date for the iPhone 5 is likely to be in early October. Other reports from Taiwan have set the date at September or October. (See CNET's iPhone 5 rumor roundup.)

Apple declined to comment after being contacted this morning. A spokesman for the San Francisco Police Department said the company did not file a police report based on the loss at the bar. Craigslist did not respond to requests for comment.

A day or two after the phone was lost at San Francisco's Cava 22, which describes itself as a "tequila lounge" that also serves lime-marinated shrimp ceviche, Apple representatives contacted San Francisco police, saying the device was priceless and the company was desperate to secure its safe return, the source said.

Apple electronically traced the phone to a two-floor, single-family home in San Francisco's Bernal Heights neighborhood, according to the source.

When San Francisco police and Apple's investigators visited the house, they spoke with a man in his twenties who acknowledged being at Cava 22 on the night the device went missing. But he denied knowing anything about the phone. The man gave police permission to search the house, and they found nothing, the source said. Before leaving the house, the Apple employees offered the man money for the phone no questions asked, the source said, adding that the man continued to deny he had knowledge of the phone.

In an interview this afternoon, Jose Valle told CNET that neither the police nor Apple security ever contacted him. Valle, who owns the bar with his family, said however does he remember a man calling multiple times about a lost iPhone about a month ago. He told the man he would call him back if he ever found the phone.

"I guess I have to make my drinks a little less strong," Valle said.

After last year's embarrassing loss, Apple reportedly has taken extraordinary steps to protect its prototype devices from leaks. Next-generation iPhones are sent to carriers for testing "inside locked and sealed boxes so that the carriers can carry out checks on their network compatibility in their labs," according to the Guardian.

Apple developers have been given new iPhones with an upgraded processor -- the one that is used in the iPad 2 and is expected to appear in the next-generation iPhone. But the device "is virtually identical to the iPhone 4, and there is no way anyone can tell it's not an iPhone 4 based on the phone's exterior," a report at 9to5Mac.com says. Even last year's prototype was enclosed in a case designed to make it look like an iPhone 3GS.

Last year's prototype iPhone went missing when Robert Gray Powell, an Apple computer engineer who was 28 years old at the time, left it in a German beer garden in Redwood City, Calif.

iPhone 5 now rumored to launch October 7

The iPhone 5 could go on sale on Friday, October 7, with preorders to start on September 30, according to the latest rumors in the ongoing saga of the hotly anticipated next edition of Apple's smartphone.

Citing intel from its own sources, 9To5Mac said yesterday that Apple had been eyeing either October 7 or October 14 as potential iPhone 5 launch dates. But with preproduction apparently running smoothly, the site says, Apple has opted for the earlier date.

Apple will reportedly offer the phone for preorder a week before it hits store shelves, looking at either September 29 or 30, though 9To5Mac's sources pin the 30th as the most likely date. Assuming the preorder date is accurate, at least for now, that also means Apple would have to hold its iPhone 5 unveiling sometime in September. Apple typically shows off new iPhones and iPads at high-visibility media gatherings some days or weeks ahead of the devices going on sale.

The October 7 date has also been floated by TiPb. However, the tech news site suggests taking the reports with a grain of salt since even if the date is on the money at this point, Apple's plans are fluid. Even 9To5Mac admits that "the date could and likely will change again."

But October itself has been strongly suggested as the launch month for the iPhone 5 by All Things D's Kara Swisher, pointing to information from her own sources.

TiPb isn't quite sure the new phone will be an iPhone 5. The site said it keeps hearing that the device will be an iPhone 4S with some improvements but the same design as the existing phone, a rumor that's been around for awhile.

Other reports say that Apple will launch two phones--the new and improved iPhone 5 and a more budget-friendly iPhone 4S, one that may even tap into the company's iCloud service to provide cloud-based storage. TiPb says that the debut of two new phones from Apple could explain the conflicting rumors that it's heard.

And yet other reports have put a potential iPhone launch date as early as September 7.

Adding further tidbits to the iPhone 5 saga, Macpost has published images purporting to be of replacement parts for the new phone. Replacement parts such as a camera lens and an audio jack have recently popped up online among different Chinese resellers, according to the site, and show some subtle differences from parts for the iPhone 4.

Finally, global carrier Telefonica will reportedly start cutting back on its stock of the iPhone 4 through September 12. Revealing the news, Engadget cited a source who said that such a move "will of course prepare us for the launch of a new smartphone." The source didn't offer up a specific date when the new phone will debut, though Engadget said it's heard that the launch will occur in October.

iPhone 5 to be Released in October

iPhone 5 to Be Released in China and Canada in October
Leaked Info Indicates October Release in Canada and China

It has been reported this week by BGR(BoyGeniusReport), the well known tech blog, that leaked documents form Telus, a big Canadian telecommunication company, indicate an October 1st release date for the long expectediPhone 5. In Canada.

If we look at previous iPhone introductions, Apple has launched a new device in US and Canada both at the same time, and in the US first, then Canada second. Taking this into consideration, the September launch date that we were talking about in earlier articles might still be true for the US.

The leaked list that includes the Canadian iPhone 5 launch date also seems to include release dates for several other gadgets. These dates look to be accurate, as they are confirmed by many other trusted sources. This means that October 1st might actually be the Canadian release date.

Apple has previously launched their newest smartphones on a Thursday or a Friday but, because Saturday is statistically the busiest day for cellphone stores, a Saturday release is not out of the question.

Rumors that appeared on Sohu, a large Chinese search engine company, talk about the agreement between China Telecom and Apple to introduce the newest iPhone and a budget version of the current iPhone this October. The budged smartphone will be a cheaper version of the current device, which will target a larger customer base in developing countries.
Stores Reducing Prices for Current iPhone, Expecting the iPhone 5

It looks like some stores are getting ready for the new Apple smartphone by reducing prices on current iPhone 4 models. Radio Shack is offering the 16GB version for $169.99 and the 32GB version for $269.99. Target is also running a promotion, listing the 16GB model for $149.99 and the 32GB model for $249.99, as well as the 3GS for only $19.99. Both stores offer a $100 credit towards the purchase of the iPhone 4 with the trade in of a previous model.

New rumors come out every day and it’s hard to decide which ones to believe, but when retailers start slashing their prices, it is a good indication that an upgrade is on the way. While we constantly read new and most times conflicting info about the release date, one thing is certain: the iPhone 5 will be released soon, more and more news are starting to point towards that.

Pegatron now aims to ship 10million iPhone 5 in September

The iPhone 5 rumors keep coming: Device manufacturer Pegatron has received orders to build and ship 10 million iPhone 5 units for September, the Taiwanese news site Digitimes reports.

We previously reported (also via Digitimes) that Pegatron would be shipping 15M iPhone 5s in September. Pegatron also reportedly landed the contract to build Apple’s iPad 3 later this year — which, if true, proves the company’s quest to dethrone Apple’s current manufacturing partner Foxconn is taking shape.

If the news about Pegatron’s iPhone 5 shipments is true, it could debunk a report from earlier this week that suggested the iPhone 5 would actually be released in October. That report countered the general assumption that the device would land in September.

Pegatron previously has been the manufacturer tasked with building the CDMA (Verizon-capable) iPhone. The iPhone 5 is expected to be both GSM and CDMA compatible, so it could work across all major US cellular networks and be ready for international usage as well. We already know that the current Verizon iPhone has hardware that would allow it to work on other networks.

Pegatron last year upgraded its equipment, factories and worker numbers to handle iPhone 4 orders. The company had the capacity to build 10 million CDMA-compatible iPhone 4s (the Verizon iPhone), but lower than expected sales led to it shipping fewer than 4 million units in the last quarter. Pegatron is also vying to win other contracts from Apple, such as building the MacBook Air.
